The Martini

Gin (or vodka), dry vermouth, olive or twist. Three ingredients, three minutes, one cold glass.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml London Dry gin or good vodka
  • 10 ml dry vermouth Dolin or Noilly Prat, kept in fridge
  • ice, plenty
  • olive on a pick or lemon peel, to garnish

Instructions

  • Chill a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least 10 minutes.
  • Combine gin and vermouth in a mixing glass.
  • Fill with ice and stir briskly with a bar spoon for a full 20 seconds.
  • Strain into the chilled glass.
  • Garnish with an olive or an expressed lemon peel. Serve immediately.
