Type Sparkling Prosecco | Producer Brown Brothers | Region Australia > Victoria > King Valley | ABV 11.5% | Volume 750 ml | Price (AUD) ~$22
House notes
Brown Brothers Prosecco is the Aussie sparkling that won the “what do I serve at a backyard thing” debate once and for all. King Valley glera grape, done in the charmat method, finished dry-leaning but not aggressively so. Pear, green apple, a whisper of honeysuckle, clean bubbles that hang around. At around $22 a bottle it is the Spritz wine of choice for most Australian households. Not quite as bone-dry as a proper Italian Prosecco DOC, which is a feature when you are topping a Spritz: you want enough sweetness to play against the bitter of the Aperol.
What it pairs with
Aperol Spritz, Hugo Spritz, French 75 (if you are feeling frugal), Mimosa (on a Sunday with something greasy), or straight in a coupe as the welcome drink at dinner. Food: antipasti, prosciutto-wrapped melon, calamari, a bowl of arancini, or the obvious call of a Tuesday night takeaway pizza. Surprisingly good with salty snacks like Thins or Kettle Original. Does not age. Drink it in the year you buy it.
About the producer
Brown Brothers has been making wine in Milawa, north-east Victoria, since 1889. The Prosecco program started in the King Valley in the 1990s when the region’s Italian-heritage growers began planting glera. It is now the bestselling Prosecco in Australia.
