House notes

Plantation 3 Stars (recently rebranded Planteray, same juice) is a blend of Trinidadian, Barbadian, and Jamaican white rums aged briefly in bourbon barrels, filtered clear, and cut to bottle strength. The Jamaican component is what makes it sing. You get funk, banana, pineapple, and a whiff of something tropical that the cleaner French-style rums just don’t have. In a Pina Colada it does all the work. In a Daiquiri it throws enough character that you don’t need lime quite as aggressively. Slightly more expensive than Havana Club 3, slightly funkier, and absolutely worth the upgrade if you’re building a rum-forward summer.

What it pairs with

The upgrade bottle for Pina Coladas, Mai Tais, Daiquiris, and anything with pineapple juice. Also excellent in a Hemingway Daiquiri with maraschino and grapefruit. Food-wise, pairs with jerk pork, grilled prawns with chilli-lime, mango and sticky rice, or a properly dark spiced sticky date pudding. A bottle to own if you already have Havana Club 3 and you want more bandwidth at the cocktail hour. Not for neat sipping.

About the producer

Planteray (formerly Plantation) is the rum house of Maison Ferrand, a French cognac producer, who blend and finish-age rums from across the Caribbean and Central America. The 3 Stars blend brings together three of the most characteristic rum traditions in one working bottle.
